Greta Thunberg is a Swedish schoolgirl who, at age 15, began protesting outside the Swedish parliament in August 2018 about the need for the Governmemt to take immediate action against climate change. Her slogan is "Our house is on fire!"

Her “school strike for the climate” began attracting media attention and she has since become an outspoken climate activist. In response to the publicity, the school strike for climate movement began in November 2018 and folowing the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP24) has spread rapidly around the world.

On 15th March 2019 an estimated 1.4 million school pupils in 112 countries joined her call by striking and protesting. A similar event took place on 24th May 2019 involving students from 125 countries. In July 2019, on behalf of the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC), secretary-general Mohammed Barkindo declared Thunberg, and other young climate activists as the “greatest threat” to the fossil fuel industry.

Thunberg has received various prizes and awards for her activism. In March 2019, she was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize. In May 2019, at the age of 16, she was featured on the cover of Time magazine. Some media have described her impact on the world stage as the “Greta Thunberg effect”.

Greta has been diagnosed with various health concernes including Aspeger Syndrom and selective mutism. One slightly annoying aspect of Greta's message is that she creates the impression that nothing of value has been achieved by eco-activists who have been faithfully working for several decades. There's also a risk of panic measures being taken without having been properly thought through.
